Goodness GRACE and FAVOUR

As some of you know, the lovely Rose Ratcliffe has a delightful shop called Grace and Favour in Northcross Road, East Dulwich. She was kind enough to have Lush Designs homewares in her shop, and probably as a result of people in East Dulwich having such very good taste its been a roaring success.

Here are some of the lovely wantable things in Grace and Favour.

Rough 'n' tough brushes hewn from wood and bristling with something that doubtless has been plucked from a tree or shaved off a pig.

Makes me wanna git down on my knees and scrubby dubby dubby.

Not only will it guarantee a LOVEly nights sleep...

But, as demonstrated here by Jeani Rodgers' little pal Monkey (who isn't actually a monkey) it is entirely dog-proof.

Horses for Courses

There are those who appreciate the meat of the mighty equus - though we speak here not of horses for your MAIN courses - or even, ha ha, for your HORS D'OUEVRES

- Nay, or rather , ha ha, say NEIGH, here we mean equestrian events of course!!!!

Well anyway, we've designed a tea towel to commemorate the horsey Olympic events which will be happening in Greenwich park, and what with it being the Diamond Jubilee of our dear Queen its a bit royal and all.

If you haven't got tickets to see the galloping majors who will doubtless be ruining the grass Olympically you can always swing by the Lush Designs shop at 8 College Approach, Greenwich, SE10 9HY and pick up one of these as a souvenir. Available at the end of April.

Jugnost: an early Lush incarnation

Last century, before we were Lush Designs, we called ourselves first "Rodgers and Livings, artists to the stars" and subsequently Jugnost. (Later we became Lushlobes and only after that did we morph into Lush Designs)

In New Cross, South East London, home of Lush designs, there used to be a rather magnificent Victorian bath house called Laurie Grove. Its now part of Goldmith's University, but in the good old days when it was till wet we used it to test out some aquatic performance art costumes we had created. Note the authentic goldfish type colours

What were these costumes for? A good question!
They were commissioned by the late great Ken Campbell, writer, direstor, surrealist, enfant terrible.
We never saw the actual performance.
Here's Ken looking a bit bonkers, which is a true reflection of his actual personality.

We don't actually think its a shame to get gravy and grease on our tea towels, but Anna's a respectful kind of gal.

We follow her blog, not just because she's kind enough to blog Lush Designs, but because we enjoy seeing our neighbourhood through the eyes of an overseas student (she's at Goldsmith's).

The Birdskin Shoes

Joan Taylor Rowan has written a wonderful book, which is available as an Kindle edition from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Birdskin-Shoes-ebook/dp/B006WBJB3S.

Its a magical tale about a boy with supernaturally sensitive feet, set in Mexico and full of colour and rich sensory delights. The protagonist Joey Pachuca ends up using his talents in the circus, which is the natural home of those of us with superpowers.

Unfortunately those of us who live in South East London whose super powers are as yet unrecognised will continue to toil away at the rock face that is Lush Designs.

LOST and FOUND in Holmfirth

Holmfirth is a charming teeny tiny town in Yorkshire. Why, one of us Lush Designers spent some of her misspent youth combing the rails of a shop called Platform One looking for the ultimate Stevie Nicks style swirly dress made from vintage scarves.

From the rich soil of the Holmfirth cool vintage tradition a lovely shop called LOST and FOUND has sprung. Hurrah! For it sells Lush Designs home wares alongside the groovily restored furniture.

Of course its also famous for being the location for Last of the Summer Wine.
